The Pepperoni Boss
I had been meaning to eat pepperoni pizza for days when I finally found the time to make my dream come true. I had already stocked up on pepperoni in the fridge, but I wanted something else to go with it to complement the salty flavor of the pepperoni. Luckily, I had just the right amount of ingredients at home for the pizza. The idea was to just make something simple and quick, but the end result was so tasty that I had to share it. Here is the story of The Pepperoni Boss.
Ingredients
- Tomato sauce
- Mozzarella
- Pepperoni slices
- Green bell pepper (chopped)
- Red onion (chopped)
- Parmesan cheese
- Oregano (optional)
How The Boss Was Made?
I chose green bell pepper and red onion to accompany the pepperoni. I chopped the red onion into fine pieces but left the bell pepper in slightly larger pieces. This way the bell pepper has time to soften a bit in the oven but doesn’t turn completely mushy. I want it to have a little crunch in my mouth. I used oregano and a little Parmesan to add flavor. The pizza cheese was mozzarella, as usual in my creations.
I baked the pizza until the crust was golden brown and crispy and the cheese had melted into bubbly lava. When I took the pizza out of the oven, the smell was tempting. I let it rest for a few minutes before cutting, and tasting it.
Tasting The Pepperoni Boss
The first bite tastes cheesy and salty, just like a good pepperoni pizza should. I love the smoky spiciness of the pepperoni. The fat that comes off the pepperoni as the pizza bakes in the oven adds flavor and moisture to the entire pizza. This also allows the pepperoni to be savory with every bite, even if the pizza isn’t completely covered with pepperoni slices. The amount of pepperoni is a matter of taste, of course, but I like it to be generous but still leave room for other toppings.
The chopped green peppers impressed not only with their flavor but also with their texture. They added a fresh crunch and sweetness that nicely offset the overpowering boss position of the salty and fatty pepperoni. Third but almost equally important was the red onion, which in small pieces lurked in the background but stepped out to bring a small dose of spiciness to the pizza.
And like a soft summer snowfall, the pizza was finished off with Parmesan cheese and oregano. There was just the right amount of the Parmesan cheese. So that its strong flavor comes out, but it doesn’t take over the main role on its own. The oregano, sprinkled on the freshly baked pizza, clings to the surface of the cheese beautifully and brings a scent that conquers the pizza kitchen.
Although the pepperoni played the main role, the unifying factor of the whole pizza was the pizza sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. Mozzarella had melted so it was soft in the middle and crispy dry on the edges of the pizza. The pizza base worked out commendably well. It was soft in the middle, but pleasantly crispy on the bottom and especially on the edges.
It’s a Teamwork
The reason I wanted to share this creation was the surprising balance of the pizza. I wasn’t sure if pepperoni would be too dominant. A pepperoni pizza alone is good, but I wanted to include other flavors as well. And that goal was achieved. Pepperoni was the boss, but the other toppings were equally important parts of the team. However, i think this boss might be promoted to even bigger roles in the future.
